Kira & Dax
“I would have to say my biggest regret since our previous cats passed on is that we don't have enough photos of us as a furfamily. When we were talking about getting kittens again late last year, I made a resolution that we were going to put ourselves in front of the camera with them as well (even though we are both a little camera shy).”

How did you pick their names?
“At first we liked Niles and Frasier if we had two boys, or names from The Golden Girls if we had two girls. But, we brought home a boy and a girl so we had to think about it more. We ended up picking these names after Star Trek: Deep Space Nine characters (even though Kira and Dax are both female characters we thought Dax worked for a boy too). Also, in Star Trek, Kira’s nemesis is named Kai, so we named her toy Kai.”
If they were people who would they be?
Alberto replied, “They remind me of Dexter and Didi from Dexter's Laboratory. Dexter is a nerdy, naive, innocent guy and his sis Didi always annoys him and gets into everything. That’s pretty much their sibling relationship!”
Do they have any funny quirks or habits?
“Dax often looks around, wide-eyed, like he’s in awe of the world. He also loves to jump onto our shoulders, asks for belly rubs every morning, and he likes to spin around with his toys - we call him our ballerina. Kira will play fetch for a long time - like 25 minutes non-stop. If you stop playing before she’s done, she’ll attack your feet until you play again. Sometimes when we’re doing dishes she’ll start nipping at our feet and bring her toy Kai over to show she wants to play.”
What’s one of your best memories with them?
“For the first few weeks Kira would barely eat and she was losing weight rapidly. Our vet tested for everything but they couldn’t find anything wrong with her. So, the moment we watched her devour something for the very first time was an amazing moment; we felt so happy and relieved.”
What’s the hardest part about raising cats?
”It can take a lot of patience, especially in the beginning.”
What’s the most rewarding part about raising cats?
”I love the cuddles and waking up to them.” Sarah replied.
”The unconditional love.” Alberto added.
