Maple and the Engagement
After postponing their wedding due to Covid-19, Aly and Brent wanted to announce their new wedding date in a fun way. They decided to feature their new family member, Maple, to make it extra special.
“We want to try to make people smile with our announcement rather than making it a sad affair.”

How did you pick her name?
“I wanted something to represent Canada because I recently moved here. I’m originally from Scotland.” Aly answered.
What made you decide to add Maple to the family?
“We’ve always loved dogs, but we both worked on cruise ships for a long time so we couldn’t have one. We recently moved into this house after leaving ships last year, so we started looking for a female Australian Shepherd. It took a long time to find her but was worth the wait.”
In your email you said she knows 30 tricks?! Can you name a few of the cool ones?
“Maple will ‘Sit Pretty’. That’s when she sits on her back legs and pulls her front paws up.
She’ll play dead if we point our fingers at her and say ‘Bang!’.
She knows ‘Shame’. That’s where she’ll put her hand over her nose and put her head down.
When we say ‘Tada’ she takes a bow.
She can dance, jump through a hoop, and put her paw around you for a selfie. And a bunch more!”
Does Maple have any funny quirks or habits?
“Oh yeah, quite a few.” they both smiled before taking turns listing quirks. “She’ll cry every time you have ice cream because she thinks it’s for her. She’s obsessed with socks. She’s a total lapdog. And, if she really wants your attention, she’ll go pick up a shoe and drop it in front of you. She knows she’s not allowed to touch shoes, so it’s her being defiant and really seeking attention.”
What’s the most rewarding thing about raising Maple?
“Love. Just the love.” Aly answered.
“Yeah, she’s just so full of love. I’ll leave the house for a few minutes to go to the store, and when I come back it’s like I was gone for days. She’s just so loving.”
