A Bug’s Life
When Jeannie was surprised with a cancer diagnosis in her dog, Bug, she decided to capture some of his last moments to celebrate his life and look back on. From the date of the session he is only expected to live a few weeks.
It was an honor to do this session. Bug and Jeannie have a beautiful bond and love each other so much.
Bug in a few words:
Utterly Devoted, Steadfast Friend, Staunch Defender, Tragically Misunderstood
10 years old
Aussie Doodle
How did you and Bug become a family?
Jeannie explained, “I’ve always loved the breed and the timing was right so I started looking. I found a posting online that said a house in Amish country had a litter, so I drove up and brought him home that day.”
How has Leroy been a part of Bug’s life?
“We met recently and have become really good friends, and he’s really bonded with Bug. Leroy’s been helping with training as well. It’s been really nice to watch them bond and see how far Bug has come!”
What’s one of your favourite memories with him?
“When I was really sick with the flu he stayed in bed with me by my side the whole time. He’d put his paw on me and comfort me. He’s very protective and loyal, but not super cuddly. So, it was really special that he stayed so close to me during that time. He just knew I needed him and was there for me.”
Does Bug have any funny habits or quirks?
“He’ll stand up on his back legs and drink water out of the kitchen faucet and eat any crumb of food you leave on the counter.
Also, recently, he’s started laying at the top of the stairs and peaking his head around the corner. He does this when he’s listening to find out what I’m doing. He’ll decided whether or not to follow me by the sounds I make. If it sounds like I’m staying downstairs he’ll come down, but if I’m just getting water or something he can tell and he’ll stay put. He’s really smart.”
What’s the most rewarding part about raising Bug?
“Seeing him grow and evolve over the years.” Jeannie said thoughtfully.
Leroy added, “And there’s never a dull moment. He’s always getting into something; listening and watching his surroundings. He’s very intelligent and can outsmart us often. Plus, seeing Jeannie and Bug’s bond is incredible. And, it’s not just incredible because they love each other, it’s incredible because they individually have such good souls, so their relationship is a reflection of that.”
