Lola, Cashew & Beans

On a chilly afternoon in November I was welcomed into the warm home of Lola the cat, Beans and Cashew the dogs, and their hoomans Kristen & Noel.

Their home was gorgeous and light, with the Christmas decorations hung with care. We sat down to chat about their furfamily.

How did you pick their names?
“Well, I’m vegan and beans and cashews are types on vegan protein, so I named them after that. I call them the ‘vegan protein dogs’. And Lola was so long ago I don’t actually remember why. I think it just worked for her” Kristen replied.

Describe your animals in 4 words:
Lola: Boss, Independent, Escape Artist
Cashew: Hyper, Cuddle Monster, Velcro
Beans: Mama, Diva, Sweet, Hero

What makes you say Beans is a hero?
Kristen exclaimed, “Because she actually is! It was crazy but she was staying at someone’s house – a doggy daycare – while we were away. They had an in-law suite downstairs where their mother was staying, and in the middle of the night they heard Beans scratching intensely at her door. They thought this was especially odd because Beans never makes a fuss, so they went to check it out. It turns out that their mother had fallen and broken her hip and couldn’t get to the phone! There were 6 other dogs in the house and Beans was the only one to detect this and do something about it! They had a little award ceremony eventually and gave her a medal for being a hero.”

If they had people jobs, what would they do?
Lola: Lady of the Night
Cashew: Garbage Woman
Beans: Firefighter

Do they have any quirks or funny habits?
“Beans is NOT a cuddler and is very particular about her bed. She always has to ‘make her bed’ before sleeping in it.

And Cashew LOVES dish towels and humping Beans!”

How did Lola (cat) react when she met Beans (first dog they got) for the first time?
“Lola was originally in a home with other dogs. We think she identifies as a dog, so there was no problem!”
