Buttons

Buttons is a senior pup living in Flamborough with his pawrents, Ruthie and Paul.
Ruthie has raised Buttons since he was a puppy and he’s helped her through some major challenges. She wanted to capture their relationship to celebrate and look back on forever.

How did you and Buttons become a family?
Ruth explained, “I’ve had him since he was 7 weeks old. I had lost a doggy a couple of years before and I couldn’t bring myself to get another as I thought I was betraying his love. I tattooed his name “Shaky” on my wrist to always have him with me.

When I decided to get a puppy I prayed very much for him and for God to give me a sign of which one my puppy would be. I prayed for a black and white puppy with a little mask on his face. When I looked at all the puppies he was running in the same spot and his little ears were flapping and I said ‘that’s him’.

When I took him home I noticed he had a little mask (black hair all around the eyes) and I just knew this was the right little guy for me.

Throughout the years Buttons has been my best friend, my baby, my unconditional support. I’ve had surgeries and huge losses in my life and every time Buttons has been there by my side. He made himself present and made me laugh when I needed it the most.”

Does Buttons have any funny quirks or habits?

“Yes! He has a lot haha. He’ll stare at you as he’s walking further than where he knows he should be, then bolts. But if you call him he comes back happily with his ears flopping up and down!

He loves tomatoes. We have a tomato garden and he waits patiently until we give him one.

He’s also always hungry. Doesn’t matter how much food we give him, he always has room for more - especially chicken and peanut butter.

He’s bilingual. He knows English and Spanish. His fav Spanish words are pollo (chicken), turkey (Pavo), what do you want ? (Que quiere?) . He doesn’t like venga (come).

If he wants his toy dog or bee we tell him, ‘Walk, up in bed’ and he goes and gets it. The he runs around the whole house and hides them in between pillows.”

If Buttons was a person, who would he be?
“He’d be a Professional Eater and/or a King. He’s a hungry alpha.”

If there was an emergency and Buttons could only take 1 thing with him, what would it be?
“His stuffed bee. He goes to sleep with it.”

If Buttons could speak, what would he say?
“He’d say he loves Ruthie” Paul answered.
Ruthie added thoughtfully, “Animals carry your soul and I think he definitely carries me. I only wish to repay him by giving him the best life.”
